Northwestern Hockey Supports the Julia's Wings Foundation

I am pleased to announce that Northwestern Hockey will be a proud sponsor of Julia's Wings Foundation in conjunction with the upcoming Kent Pumpkin Run.  The Julia's Wings Foundation was formed in the memory of Julia Malsin, a 13-year old girl and former Northwestern player who was stricken with Aplastic Anemia and passed away nearly 3 years ago.

One of Julia's wishes was to see that her family and friends carried on with helping find a cure for Aplastic Anemia and to give families hope and comfort while they battle this disease.  It is with the highest honor that our organization gives back to help keep our promise to Julia.

Besides our organization's sponsorship, there are several ways that you can help support Julia's Wings Foundation.  If you are interested in running or walking in the Kent Pumpkin Run on October 26, 2014, please visit to sign up or for more information.  Be sure to indicate that you are a member of Team Julia's Wings.  You'll pay a little more to participate in the race, but the extra money will go directly to the Foundation.  Please help us pull together and have a strong presence as the Northwestern contingent of Team Julia's Wings at the Kent Pumpkin Run!

If you can't make it to the Kent Pumpkin Run, you can still help by donating to the Foundation.  Northwestern Hockey has a fundraising page set up specifically for donations to the Juila's Wings Foundation.  Our fundraising goal is $1,000, but I'm sure we can easily surpass that if we all donate even the smallest amount.  All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Whether you are able to support this cause or not, please take the time to share this information through any outlet possible.  Whether it's your own email list, Facebook, or another social network, any exposure we can get will help our cause.  Julia's Wings Foundation is on Facebook and their web site is
Thank you for giving H.O.P.E (Honoring Our Promise Everyday).

Limited Travel Registration Open

Registration for Northwestern Hockey's Limited Travel program is now open.  We are looking to build off a fun "Squirt" season last year.  We plan to field 1 Peewee / Bantam team and at least 1 Squirt team this year and we've made some changes for the 2014/15 season.
First of all, the season will begin a little sooner.  This year, the Limited Travel season will begin on October 25.  The regular schedule will include a Saturday practice and a Sunday practice or game, both sessions at the Gunnery.  The season will also feature games against other similar programs around Connecticut, including In House teams hosted by rinks around the state (like Stamford, SoNo, and Danbury).  Finally, depending on the interest level on the team, we would like to enter the team in the "Rock the House" tournament in New Jersey in March.  It is held at the Floyd Hall Arena and features House / Limited Travel teams from the tri-state area!  More about that as the season goes along.
If you know of any other players looking to play a little hockey without the time and money commitment associated with full travel hockey, please let them know about our program.  It's never too late to get started playing hockey!
The fee for the 2014/15 season is $475 for Squirts (birth years 2004 and 2005) and $500 for Peewee / Bantams (birth years 2000 through 2003).  Please register online.  A valid USA Hockey registration is required for the 2014/15 season before registering online with Northwestern Hockey.

Expansion of Goaltender Development Program Overview

Northwestern Hockey is proud to announce the expansion of our highly successful goalie development program. Starting with the upcoming 2013/14 season, the number of professionally instructed in-season goalie clinics will be increased from 4 to 6.  These clinics will be available to all full-time travel goalies free of charge. Also, in order to attract and retain the best goalie talent in the area, there will be NO TRYOUT FEES for any full-time goalie that wishes to attend our tryouts. Finally, all full-time Travel goaltenders for the Squirt, Peewee and Bantam teams (max 2 goalies per team) will receive a 50% DISCOUNT OFF THE SEASON FEES. We are excited to be able to continue to foster the growth and  development of both our players and goalies, encouraging them to be the best they can be both on and off the ice.

What is GottaLoveCTHockey?

NWCYH Families:

We‘d like to make sure you are aware of the CHC initiative, GottaLoveCTHockey, a new venture that puts a friendly face on youth hockey in CT. Each week two CHC programs are highlighted and players, coaches, parents and fans are interviewed.  Episodes are released weekly on Wednesday, and usually are 5-6 minutes long.

We’d like to encourage all players and parents to check out GottaLoveCTHockey ( Information is available on the website about signing up for the weekly emails, as well as other great information about hockey in CT. GottaLoveCTHockey can also be found on Facebook (gotta love ct hockey) and Twitter (GottaLoveCTHcky).

For a great description of the initiative click here.

Thank you,
